It first came as a rumour, last month, that Instagram is testing a feature that would allow users to follower hashtags. The announcement today from the picture-sharing social network has confirmed the rumour to be true.
The announcement from Instagram said, “Today we’re introducing the ability to follow hashtags, giving you new ways to discover photos, videos and people on Instagram. Now it’s even easier to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, passions and communities you care about.”
Explaining how the hashtag following will work, the guys at the social network said, “Following a hashtag is just like following a friend. To get started, search for a topic you’re interested in or tap on a hashtag from any post. You’ll see relevant hashtags displayed in your search results along with related accounts. When you find a hashtag you like, open the hashtag page and tap on the follow button.”
So if you are a football lover and don’t want to miss any picture with the hashtag #football on Instagram, you will just search for the hashtag and tap on the follow button.
Hashtags are a way of categorising posts on social media; however, they are widely used on Twitter and Instagram. On Techrabytes Instagram page, I usually add the hashtag #Android and #Phones while sharing the images of the latest Android phones in the market. When I share latest computers, I use the hashtag #Windows and #Computers.
So if you follow the hashtags, you are likely to see the pictures of the phones and computers I will be sharing on Instagram, from now on, even without following Techrabyes. Nevertheless, please follow us on Instagram: @techrabytes.
