Meet SureFly, a drone taxi that can carry two people

The idea of flying cars has been around for a long period, but this company, called Workhorse, is looking beyond that idea. Instead, it is looking at a drone taxi, a drone that’s big and powerful enough to fly two people.

Surefly

Workhorse named the drone taxi SureFly and going by its plan the drone taxi will fly in front of everybody come CES 2018. (CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show; it is an annual trade show held in Las Vegas to showcase the latest tech products.)

In a conversation between Mike Dektas, the spokesperson of Workhorse, and Digital Trends, Mike said the CES 2018 is the premiere tech show in the world, and it will be the perfect place to showcase the SureFly octocopter to the world.

The drone taxi, which its earlier version would be piloted using a joystick, has already been tested in the Paris Air Show, and it is claimed that SureFly could carry two people weighing up to 400 pounds.

SureFly has eight separate propellers and runs on a combination of gas combustion engine and parallel battery pack. The drone taxi flies at 70 miles per hour and can cover up to 70 miles with a full fuel tank. The most interesting thing about SureFly is that on the land, it can fold its propellers and fit comfortably into a regular car garage.

The Workhorse team said it doesn’t currently have a target market for the SureFly; however, it believes the vehicle would be useful in agriculture, military, city commute (taxi), cargo transport, etc. The projected market launch time for SureFly is 2019, and by that time, it would sell for $200,000.
