We have already conquered Earth, so our next mission is to conquer the space – and other planets. Elon Musk and SpaceX and other private space companies are seriously working on ensuring that in no time, we conquer the space and then deliver tourists to Mars. I hope to be one of the first set of tourists to visit the red planet.
But because tourists must always lodge in a hotel, which would cater for their temporary needs, the Russians are planning to build a space hotel. They will be it on the International Space Station.
The construction of the space hotel was proposed by Russian space corporation Roscosmos, and as expected the cost of booking the hotel won’t be cheap. Booking the space hotel would cost me (and other aspiring space tourists) $40 million for the week-long visit to space, and for tourists that want to go spacewalk, they will pay $20 million extra.
Work has already started on building the hotel, with the first phase of its module already completed. The second phase will start soon, but its implementation requires $446 million. The Russian government paid for the first module, so it’s now asking RKK Energia, the Russian space contractor, to find a way to fund the second module. So that might slow down the construction of the space hotel.
Upon completion, the space hotel will have four sleeping quarters, a lounge area, and medical and hygiene stations.
It is predicted that RKK Energia would finish the construction of the hotel in the next five years, and by that time commercial space rockets should be fully ready to deliver people to space – and I should be rich enough to afford the cost of my space travel.
