The Egyptians are known for the mummies and the daddies (sorry, the pyramids), which represent some of the earliest advancement in human history. But since the industrial revolution, Egypt was never the same, losing the world power to The West – thanks to technological breakthroughs.
So to catch up with the latest technology trends, the country has recently invested heavily in its tech industry, and one of the dividends has come out to be a made-in-Egypt smartphone named Nile X.
The smartphone, which was announced by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, was locally made with the help of the Chinese. In terms of specifications, the Nile X supports 4G network, has 64 GB internal memory, and runs on 4 GB RAM.
Other specifications of the phone include a 13 MP dual camera, an octa-core processor, Android Nougat and a 5.7-inch screen. Interestingly, the phone supports fast charging, comes with a fingerprint sensor, and features USB Type-C.
The Nile X and the other phones and tablets manufactured by SICO would start at EGP 200 and shouldn’t cost more than EGP 4200.
SICO plans to extend beyond Egypt in the future; the company aims to build manufacturing plants, which would manufacture and sell affordable smartphones across Africa, in Nairobi, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa.
