The word ALIAS might have suggested the meaning of MTN VTU Alias Number, but I like to explain the meaning and the usefulness of the platform. MTN VTN Alias Number is an 11-digit pseudo-number that can be used in place of your MTN phone number, for the purpose of buying recharge card and data through VTU (Virtual Top-UP).
With the Alias Number activated on your SIM, you wouldn’t need to give VTU vendors your direct phone number again. When a vendor transfers call credit or data credit to the pseudo-number, it will be credited to your main phone number.
So, actually, MTN VTN Alias Number was rolled out, by MTN, to make you stop giving out your phone number every time you want to buy credit or data through VTU.
How To Get MTN VTU Alias Number For Your MTN Number
Getting the MTN VTU Alias Number is easy; all you need is to dial the activation code and follow the command to activating the number, as follow:
- Pick your phone and dial *323#.
- After dialling the code, select the option 1.
- You will receive an SMS, shortly after selecting option 1, that your MTN VTU Alias Number has been created.
You can only generate the MTN VTU Alias Number once, and once it has been generated, you can save it and start giving it out when you want to use VTU. In case you forget or lost the number, you can also get it back by dialing *323# and select the option that says “View”.
Note: Even though the VTU Alias Number serves as a permanent replacement for your MTN phone number and you can get call and data credit through it, call and SMS send to the number wouldn’t be delivered to your phone number.
The MTN VTU Alias Number works on all VTU terminals, including ATMs, Quick teller, Paga, etc, and even street vendors selling MTN VTU.
