Since it has got back the license to manufacture Nokia phones, HMD Global has been dazzling us with awesome Nokia phones. To make the Finnish company able to manufacture even more models of Nokia phones, it has acquired the trademark of the Nokia Asha Model.
And by the acquisition of this trademark, HMD Global isn’t restricted to only manufacturing Nokia Asha feature phones. It can use the trademark to manufacture Asha smartphones, meaning we might be having Nokia Asha smartphone soon.
The application to start using the Asha trademark started in October 2011, and finally, in this January 2018, the company has been awarded the license through EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Although HMD Global hasn’t said much about what it will do about the trademark acquisition, it is suggested that the OEM would use the Nokia Asha trademark to develop new affordable smartphones.
At the moment the company is still busy with Nokia 1, which is the company’s first Android Go smartphone. The Nokia 1 is likely to be launched in March; perhaps after that, HMD Global would announce what it would do with the newly acquired Nokia Asha trademark.
