Has MTN, Glo, Airtel, or 9mobile taken your money unjustly? Use this toll-free number to report them to NCC

For a very long time, lots of we Nigerians have been at the mercy of telecommunication service providers (MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile) in the country: They take our money without prior notice, they auto-subscribe us to caller tunes, they active unrequested valued added service, and many more.

In the past, when these service providers did any of the named disservices, we have no one to report to — other than calling their customer care and hoping they resolve the issue. Not any more. To protect our interest, NCC has introduced a subscriber complaint toll-free number. The number is 622, and when you dial the number, an agent would pick up and ask you for the detail of the disservice.

The introduction of the number was announced by Prof. Umar Danbatta, the executive vice chairman of the NCC, at the 95th Edition of Consumers Outreach Programme held last week in Dutse.

On reading comments generated by people on Nairaland, where I stumble upon the news, I discovered that most Nigerians commenting on the news don’t believe the number is going to work, and that an agent might never pick up. Because of this, I decided to call the number, and to my amazement, an agent picked up within two minutes.

The agent was friendly and asked how he might be of help. I told him that I was just calling to verify that the number works and that an agent picks. He said that is fine, that the number works and that agents are always ready to listen to telecom subscribers complaints and make network providers resolve issues.

I am happy about this development. Kudos to the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC). So, anytime you have an issue with any network in Nigeria, call 622. It is free, and agents pick up within minutes.
