Facebook will start notifying you when someone uploads your picture, without tagging you

Before now, you only get a notification from Facebook if your friends choose to tag you in pictures they upload. Thanks to the latest advancement in the Facebook face-recognition technology, you would now get a notification when someone uploads a picture and the algorithm detects you are in the picture.

You will get the notification even if the person that uploads the picture on Facebook didn’t tag you.

In the past, the Facebook face-recognition technology was able to read contents in an image and generate an alternative text, which tells the likely things in the image. The algorithm does this by stating the “may contain” in the image, but not the names of the people in the image.

The update to the algorithm supports recognising the face of the people in the image and stating their names. So if the algorithm spots you in an image uploaded to Facebook, it would send you a notification, whether you are tagged or not.
