It has earlier been reported that Huawei is being investigated for violating US sanction against Iran. And for the Android OS is owned by Google, which is an American company, the OEM might get banned from using the OS if found guilty.
However, the company appears to be ready for days without the Android OS. According to this post published by Gizmodo, Huawei has been working on its own OS since 2012; therefore, taking a leap off Android wouldn’t be a big issue. In fact, the report claims Huawei isn’t only developing an OS for mobile phones; it’s developing for tablets and PCs as well.
Speaking in a recent event about the capacity of Huawei to develop its OS, Zhao Ming, president of Huawei’s Honor sub-brand, said, “There is no doubt that Huawei is capable of doing it … But for now, I don’t think it is necessary since we work very closely with Google and will continue to use its Android system.”
From Zhao’s statement, it can be deducted that Huawei is seriously working on the OS and might fully deploy the OS if the company gets banned from using the Android OS.
It’s worth noting that Huawei isn’t the only OEM working on (or has deployed) personal OS. Samsung owns the Tizen OS, and OnePlus owns Oxygen and Hydrogen OS, which are based on the Android OS.
Because OnePlus’s OSes are based on the Android OS, it’s speculated the Huawei’s yet-to-be-released OS may be based on the Android OS, too.
