Have you ever wanted to send a video on your phone as a GIF to your friend on Whatsapp? It is very easy to do, and indeed you can use GIF makers or sophisticated apps like Photoshop to convert the video to GIF and then share it. But that’s a long process and requires using a third party app, which may not be free.
If you are running the latest update of WhatsApp, you don’t need to pass through that long journey as the WhatsApp itself now comes with an inbuilt video-to-GIF converter. In this post, I will show you how to convert a video to GIF using the inbuilt converter and how to send the converted GIF file.
First thing first: update your WhatsApp to the latest version, and then proceed as follow.
How to Convert a Video to GIF on WhatsApp
To convert a video to GIF on WhatsApp, you will need to make sure that the video isn’t longer than 6 seconds. If the video is longer than that, the inbuilt video-to-GIF converter lets you set and cut the 6-second time frame, in a way that you can set where you want the GIF’s loop to start and end.
Steps to Converting Video to GIF on WhatsApp
- Tap on the contact (your friend) you wanted to send the GIF to.
- Tap on the attachment icon.
- Tap on the Gallery icon, and find the video you want to convert to GIF.
The video I selected is 60 seconds long, so I need to set the time frame to 6 seconds. To do that, I will adjust the video slider at the top until I get 6 seconds.
As you can see in the image before, the option GIF has appeared after setting the time frame to 6 seconds.
- Tap on the GIF option, to convert the video to GIF.
- Add a few text (optional) in the box for Add a caption, and tap on the send icon, to send the converted GIF file to your friend.
By following the above steps thoroughly, your friend will get the video file as an animated GIF.
